Wallet cards in branch marketing

More than digital business cards

Traditional printed business cards are out – their modern evolution is called the Wallet Card. This digital format not only replaces paper but also offers a whole range of additional marketing functions.

Let’s be honest: who still pulls out a paper business card in a business meeting these days? And everyone knows where it ends up shortly afterwards. Instead, vCards or PDF business cards have long been sent out, and QR codes for social media profiles or landing pages scanned. So far, so good, if it’s just contact details or further links.

Wallet Cards can do more

Wallet Cards are not limited to storing relevant data about a person. Rather, they provide branch organisations with a direct digital channel to their target group’s smartphone. The advantage of this digital business card is that changes to contact details or functions are made centrally and played out automatically – without reprinting or redistribution.

However, a Wallet Card can do much more, as it is a marketing tool: push notifications can be used to send targeted information – for example, new products, exclusive offers or invitations to events. This allows brands to actively maintain relationships with their partners, customers and interested parties and measurably increase the impact of networking.

Easily saved, centrally updated

Wallet Cards are stored on smartphones and shared with conversation partners via QR code or NFC. Quick saving ensures that contact details are not lost and are always at hand. As a digital business card, Wallet Cards contain all relevant information such as name, function, company, contact details, website or social media profiles.

The big difference to paper cards: if content changes, it is automatically updated. Wallet Cards are connected to a backend and are fed from a central data source. If information is adjusted there, it is synchronised when the Wallet Card is opened or via push on the end device. This keeps users up to date without having to save anything new. For branch organisations, this means less effort, fewer errors and a much more professional appearance.

Wallet Cards by socoto

In socoto’s Marketing Management System, Wallet Cards are created and customised in a similar way to traditional printed materials. The basis is a central PDF that defines the design, layout and corporate design. This ensures that the brand image remains consistent across all branches.

Within this framework, Wallet Cards can be customised locally – for example with the name of the contact person, the respective function, a branch ID or location-specific information. Once customised, users download the Wallet Card file directly from the MMS.

Important to know: a Wallet Card is not a graphic, but a data object. Content such as card name, unique ID, QR or barcode (including type and content), expiry date, colours and branding are available in a structured format. This makes Wallet Cards technically flexible and easily scalable for large branch networks.

Local touchpoints

Wallet Cards show their greatest strength in combination with local campaigns: through time and location triggers that are defined centrally in the socoto system.

Time triggers ensure that Wallet Cards are tied to clear campaign periods. This means that campaigns start automatically at a set time, can trigger a push notification at the start of the campaign or shortly before the end and are automatically deactivated after expiry.

Location triggers make Wallet Cards locally relevant. If someone is near a branch, the Wallet Card can become visible or active at that precise moment – for example, by sending a push notification or displaying the relevant branch information. In this way, the digital business card becomes a local touchpoint that generates attention at the right moment and encourages interaction.

Wallet Cards are therefore an effective branch marketing tool, especially for new openings, special days, events or regional sales. They make networking more sustainable, modern and significantly more effective than traditional business cards.
